Cape Town is one of those alluring cities with so much to often visitors in terms of the outdoors, tourist attractions, shopping and wine. It won’t take you long to realise that this peninsula on the tip of Africa is one of the world’s most beautiful cities and if you get the chance to visit, these are some of the top attractions you can’t miss out on…

1 - Table Mountain.

There’s a good reason this majestic mountain was dubbed one of the world’s Seven Wonders in the past and that’s something you’ll discover as soon as you spot it from the air, flying into Cape Town. There are really so many ways to enjoy it’s gorges, curves and pathways. If you’re feeling active and adventurous,  put your hiking boots on and choose from one of its many hiking trails. Or if you’d prefer to take it easy, pack a picnic basket ( or buy some snacks on top), take the cable car up , and watch the sun relinquish control of the daylight over the Atlantic Seaboard. If you wait a little longer, walk over the city bowl side and watch the lights switch on to illuminate the city.  Photo Credit : Daniel Manners Flickr When hiking, be sure to pack clothes for warm, cold and wet weather as the climate atop the mountains changes rapidly. Do not hike alone and rather go in a group whilst letting others know where you’re going and when you expect to be back. Pack food and water to keep your energy up and in case you stay up there longer than anticipated.  

2 - The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.

Apart from Table Mountain, it’s the most visited attraction within Cape Town city and it’s easy to see why. Take a boat ride to Robben Island, enjoy seafood overlooking the harbour, visit the Two Oceans Aquarium with your kids or take a ride on the giant Wheel. If you’re here to shop, you won’t be disappointed with endless ways to spend your money at luxury boutiques, big brands and everything in between. This is also a great place to find the perfect token of South Africa to take back home with you.  

3 - Boulders Beach, Penguin Colony.

African penguins are only found in South-Western Africa and this happens to be one of their colonies. Pay the entrance fee into this reserve and enjoy endless sunshine in this little cove. Go when it’s hot as the water is refreshingly cool and you may even get to swim along side a penguin for a second ( they are really fast swimmers). Be sure not to try touch them as they can peck you, rather enjoy watching them sun themselves on the rocks of the beach. Wear sunblock and beach hat as the African sun is known to burn visitors even when cloudy.  

4 - Winelands.

You can’t come to Cape Town without a visit to our world-renowned winelands. 5 - Cape Point.

To stand at the South-Western most tip of Africa and behold an area near where two oceans meet is something you’ll have to experience in this lifetime. Take the Flying Dutchman funicular up to the lighthouse or stretch your legs and take the stairs. Find out more about its rich maritime history and the many ships who sadly ended their journey here in the tumultuous ocean of the Cape of Good Hope.
