5 Stops You Have to Make in Constantia Wine Valley

5 Stops You Have to Make in Constantia Wine Valley

Here are 5 stops you must make in the Constantia Wine Valley:

1 - Groot Constantia

Groot Constantia.jpg Visit South Africa’s oldest wine-producing estate, which even forms part of Cape Town’s Big 7 attractions. This grand dame has a lot to offer, especially with her two restaurants Jonkershuis and Simon’s. Now, there’s also a new market located near Simon’s called Taste Emporium at Simon’s. Enjoy savouring some fine wines, eating some lovely food (no matter which restaurant you pick) and of course, touring her cellar and historical Iziko museums – which includes her charming, grand manor house (pictured above). 2 - Eagles Nest

Eagles Nest’s tasting garden (which offers lovely wine tasting, paired with cheese and meat platters) will indeed make you feel like you are perched on top of an eerie like an eagle, with its high location. Although it’s one of the smaller estates in the Cape Winelands, it’s certainly worth a visit. For more information on Eagles Nest, contact them on (021) 794 4095.

3 - Steenberg, Bistro 1682 and Catharina’s

4 - Foxcroft

Its quick ascent to the top is no mean feat, especially given the quality of restaurants afforded to one – including the likes of La Colombe and Chefs Warehouse Beau Constantia – when visiting the region these days. The restaurant and bakery is possessed by chefs Glen ‘Foxcroft’ Williams and Scot Kirton, who have both held strong ties with Foxcroft’s sister restaurant, La Colombe. In recent years, La Colombe has also called Constantia’s Silvermist Estate home. At Foxcroft, expect amazing food, breath-taking looking deserts and of course, with talented pastry chef Glen Williams at the helm, some amazing, magical pastries too. The rave reviews for Foxcroft haven’t stopped flying in, so make sure to book in advance – and if you secure a spot, go hungry because the food is to die for. For more information on Foxcroft, contact them on (021) 202 3304.

5 - Beau Constantia and Chefs Warehouse

Situated below Constantia Nek, Beau Constantia Winery will take your breath away with its views… even the unisex toilet, known fondly as the ‘Loo with a View’, offers a stunning panoramic view of the lush, lime green vineyards and beautiful Constantia valley situated below. Add to that wine tasting, tasty cheese platters/boards and now an impressive, quality restaurant in Chefs Warehouse Beau Constantia – a sister restaurant to Chefs Warehouse & Canteen in Bree Street – and you’re all set for a fine feast! Chefs Warehouse Beau Constantia is headed up by top chef, Ivor Jones, and since its opening late last year, has been consistently wowing Cape Town’s enormous and noble food scene.
