Cape Town Shopping for the Well-Heeled

Cape Town is a city, which offers shopping malls, boutique stores and many more private online/exclusive shopping options aplenty to enjoy.

These are some of the more high-end Cape Town shopping experiences for the well-heeled among us to enjoy:

1) V&A Waterfront

Previously listed number one as South Africa’s most expensive shopping space per square metre, the V&A Waterfront is a real luxury shopping experience for Capetonians and tourists alike.

Although it offers some cheaper shopping options too, there’s no doubt that it is out to target the rich and glamourous – or at least the kinds of shoppers who aren’t afraid to swipe their credit cards with some enthusiasm.

With some 450 retail stores, shoppers at the V&A Waterfront can be certain of numerous, different and above all, excellent shopping options, including the likes of H&M, ZARA, Nespresso, NIKE Concept Store, Lacoste, Earthcild, Gucci, Forever New, Shimansky The Diamond Experience, Witchery and Carrol Boyes to name only a few.

For more information on the V&A Waterfront, contact their information office on: (021) 408 7600.

2) Canal Walk Shopping Centre

Much like their brand logo says, at Canal Walk Shopping Centre, you really can shop the world.

Now with 400 stores, from both local and international brands, Canal Walk offers divine shopping, boasting the widest selection of speciality stores in the entire Southern Hemisphere.

These include international retail stores, like La Senza, Puma, Guess and Pringle of Scotland, and some newer brands too, such as Mango and Crabtree & Evelyn.

3) Cape Quarter Lifestyle Village

So much more than your typical South African shopping centre, the Cape Quarter in peaceful De Waterkant, feels like a unique Italian-type piazza and shopping haven in the heart of the Mother City.

Now, with a selection of restaurants and cafes too, you can enjoy winding down after some great shopping from stores, which offer exquisite kids’ clothing and toys, African curios, South African artworks and even some eclectic furniture too.

4) Long street and Kloof boutiques

Faintly reminiscent of New Orleans with its wrought iron balconies and laid-back feel, Long Street is famous for far more than its nightlife, as it is a great place for some select day-time shopping, in particular that from quirky Bohemian boutiques or African-inspired shops.

Look out for places like So You (vintage and rare evening/day dresses from the ‘60s and ‘70s), Afraid of Mice (top-notch vintage clothing classics), Bonafide (feminine urban wear, including tops, jeans and dresses from brands like Mooks and RVCA), David West (1950s grandeur shopping pieces) and many more!

Whereas further on, in Kloof Street, you will find a host of cafes mixed with edgy youthful fashion boutiques and chic stores.

For more information on the above-mentioned Long Street-based stores, find them at the following street addresses:

  • So You: 303
  • Afraid of Mice: 88
  • Bonafide: 207
  • David West: 113

5) Cavendish Square and The Point Mall

Other notable shopping meccas in Cape Town are Cavendish Square (Claremont) and The Point Mall (Sea Point). These are both premier shopping, lifestyle and wellness centres.

The Point is a relatively new shopping and wellness destination, which has brought fresh life and shopping fun to Sea Point and its famous Promenade strip.

Stores to enjoy here include active-wear from Lorna Jane or perhaps the world’s most exclusive swimwear from Periquita.

For more information on The Point, contact them on: (021) 439 9030.

Whereas, in contrast, Cavendish Square in Claremont has long been the go-to place for high-end or glamourous shopping.

Here, you will find everything from antique jewellery to unique or popular clothing stores for all; as well as other designer boutiques and lovely home decor/furniture stores.

For more information on Cavendish Square, contact them on: (021) 657 6500.
